Stromgewinnung am Inn – TIWAG Kraftwerk Imst

Must-do's

It was built in the years 1953 to 1956 and is a classic run-of-the-mill with threshold-operation!

After the Second World War and the Statetreaty in 1955, this power station was the most important pillar of the Tyrolean electricity supply during the development phase of the Tyrolean economy. Even today, it is one of the largest in the country. With an average annual generation of 550 gigawatt hours, it covers around one tenth of the current annual demand for electrical energy in Tyrol.
The power plant uses the natural gradient of the Inn between Prutz and Imst. The drop height of 143.5 meters is enormous compared to other running power plants. The construction of the 12.3-kilometer tunnel, which runs within the Venetian massif and cuts off the "Innknie" at Landeck, made it possible to achieve this extraordinary drop height. The dam is located in the Runserau near Fließ.
