The resting area Muttekopf was put under nature protection because of its geological feature and beauty.
The quiet area around the Muttekopf covers the southeastern part of the Lechtal Alps. A geological feature is the highest and most open-minded Gosau occurrence of the entire Limestone Alps. The variety of Cretaceous deposits with breccias, conglomerates, sandstones, marls, turbidites and the famous megabreccias of the "Blue Heads" on the southern slope of the Muttekopf make the area a unique example of sedimentary geology.
Living world
The Muttekopfgebiet is largely above the tree line. Dwarf shrub heaths, flowery mats, rubble corridors and upholstery plants characterize the landscape. The fertile soils on the marls and sandstones promote a remarkably species-rich flora. A charming feature is the Seebrig area. In the center of a depression south of the Muttekopfhanges an extensive wool grass moor has developed
The area is traditionally used as a summer pasture for sheep. In the rocks of the Muttekar are often to see ibex.
